Marriage Licenses

Persons can apply for a Marriage License in Township where either applicant resides.  You must MAKE AN APPOINTMENT in advance to apply for a license. Please call 609-267-1891, ext. 6. Marriage license applications will be processed from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Mondays through Thursdays, and from 8 am to 12:00 pm Fridays.  Applicants should know the date they are being married, who is performing the wedding ceremony and where it will take place.  You cannot fill out the application without providing this information.

If both applicants are from out of state, then one must apply for a marriage license in the municipality where the marriage is to take place. The license may be used only in that municipality.

There is a 72 hour waiting period after the application is made until the license can be issued.  Apply for your marriage license at least a week in advance of the wedding date to avoid any problems.

Identification is required at the time application is made; a photo drivers license is ideal.

A witness (who is at least 18 years old) must accompany the prospective applicants at the time application is made.

A $28.00 fee (cash only) is due and payable when the marriage application is submitted and signed.  We cannot accept checks or credit cards.  The license, once issued, is valid for a period of 30 days, only in the State of New Jersey.

Certified sealed copies of your Marriage License can be obtained after the ceremony from the Township in which the marriage took place.  There is a charge for this, please call the appropriate municipal building in advance.
